Careful with cloud hosting as you do not always get a dedicated server. granted its a fairly nice server cluster usually but sharing HD space with other people tends to put us security guys on alert. If you can find a company that does cloud hosting but can dedicate a server to you then thats great.

True, but with server virtualization the way it is, a lot of times you can get a virtualized server.  Or sometimes get your server jailed.  Jails aren't exactly the easiest to break.  Cheesy

Most of the time your server is virtualized. In fact you wuold most likely pay extra to get it non-virtualized these days so you can get the increased server performance from dedicated hardware. Virtualization is not all its cracked up to be in regards to high throughput systems.

Yea, dedicated servers are a lot more. I use virtual dedicated servers - not true dedicated but the sites on the server are separate  - at least more so than shared hosting. Have full OS control, etc.

The recent server issues seemed to have died off for the moment. It wasn't an ideal time for me to relocate so I didn't do it yet. Hopefully things remain stable for a while.

Anyhow, some MDDG development discussion - we all already voted not to let Mythknight back on the site. Next item for discussion, I am working out some of the new permission levels of the campaigns. Paving the way to granulate the various permissions, like allowing users to post on the campaign blog, or edit the wiki. As well, setting up the option for Co-GMs, which will have most permissions as the campaign admin but not quite all.

Busdriver and I talked about this too: should a copy of a character be entered into the campaign, which the player and GMs can edit, and if the player leaves the character is still in the game and can be re-assigned to a new player or deleted as the GMs see fit - or should the character remain linked to the player so if he leaves the character leaves - and if this is the case, should the GMs be able to edit it?

I'd go with the former and not allow the DM to edit.  Though I can see the argument for opposite stance, I think it would be much easier if the Player had all the control over his character and the DM had control over the players access to the game.

Yea, I think its easiest. But what about the option then to use the same character in multiple games? If each campaign has a copy then you can edit the character per game. But I guess with the copy character function that shouldn't be a big deal - you can just copy and make an original duplicate.

On that thought then, should a character be restricted to one game - i.e. do not let a user submit a character to multiple games?

Ideally, a player should not be playing the same character in all their games, but we shouldn't stop anyone from wanting that option in case there is a special situation where it would make sense or they just want to reuse their character.

Yea, after I thought about it I came to that consensus too - I don't really want to put a lot of restrictions in place. I'll just throw up a warning that the character is being used in another game and suggest the copy option. But ultimately, I dont care if someone wants to do that. If the DMs dont care then why not let them.

On that note, I got the core Campaign data and core Character data hooked up. Lookin' good Meyer, lookin' real good. The Campaign and Character Profile Images are working (almost) perfectly. I'm getting carried away adding images to campaigns and character just so I can see how it looks across the various widgets and such but this is all test data so it won't carry over to the live site and I'm wasting time - but it's cool Smiley Can't wait to see all the character and campaign images getting populated. It will really make the site look different to see these images instead of just text names and titles.

Looks real good, everything looks more cohesive than it is now. And once everyone uploads their images, it will look even better. One thing I see, the shout box seems to roam around the screen, is that one of your widgets that can be relocated? Or is it in a static place on all the different pages? And if it's static, will it be the same static place on every page?

It can be moved up or down on the side bar but the reason you see it in various spots is on some pages there are static widgets that cannot be moved or removed (the ones with the orange headers). So those ones have priority and always show up on top, hence bumping personal widgets down.

I might love you if the new chat works the way it's supposed to.

Any word on the filter?  It's irritating that you can't say ANYTHING that starts with "cum."

If its any consolation, I couldn't register with the name Poor_Knight on a certain web site because it had the word "poo" in it  Undecided
